Wires

Occasionally K-wires are used to hold bones in position while they heal.

If these wires are buried and need surgical removal, then this is done formally in a hospital.

If the wires are exposed and protruding through the skin, they can be removed quite simply in the rooms.

This is often disconcerting BUT relatively painless.

It is important to prevent the wires from becoming infected because the infection can travel to the bone.

Ensure that the wire ends are covered so that they do not get caught on clothes or bed linen.

Remove any blood or discharge from around the wires with a  saline soaked  cotton bud as necessary.
